THE POP-UP SHOP
Providing Kids, Like JoJo, Clean & Reliable Clothing
“My new shoes don’t have holes in them! They kept my feet dry all day in the rain! I bet they’ll even stay dry when I walk home through the puddles! My feet always get wet in the rain. But not today!“
The Pop-Up Shop
Two years ago, Teresa Walters had an idea – what if kids could shop for nice, gently-used clothing at the Club? She worked together with the Ferguson Crestmont Club Staff, and, in 2018, the idea because a reality! With the help of Dee Stolberg Ellies and more than 40 former Auxiliary and other community members, Teresa collected thousands of clothing items (including coats, hats, shoes, pants, dresses, tops, socks, accessories and more) that provided for more than 300 members on three occasions in 2018. Kids who had earned Club Bucks for demonstrating the Club’s CPRRS Code of Conduct (Caring, Productive, Responsible, Respectful and Safe) could spend at The Pop-Up Shop!
“Hi JoJo!” exclaimed Mr. Ben with excitement one day.
“Hi Mr. Ben!” JoJo ethusiastically replied. “Guess what?!”
“What JoJo?” Mr. Ben questioned.
JoJo smiled as she spoke. “My feet are dry!”
“What do you mean?” asked Mr Ben.
“My news shoes don’t have holes in them! They kept my feet dry all day in the rain! I bet they’ll even stay dry when I walk home through the puddles,” JoJo exclaimed.
“That’s great, JoJo! I am so happy!” said Mr. Ben, grinning.
“Me too!” she said proudly. “My feet always get wet in the rain. But not today!”
Does JoJo do better in school because her feet are dry? We think so.
It certainly gives her a more even playing field with her peers.
