AMERICORPS PROGRAM
Learn How to Serve the Club as an AmeriCorps Member
Engaging more than 75,000 citizens of the United States, AmeriCorps is a program where members engage in intensive service at nonprofits, schools, and public agencies in addition to their wide footprint in community and faith-based groups across the country.
In fact – since 1994, over 900,000 AmeriCorps members have contributed more than 1.2 billion hours in service across the country.
In addition to maintaining crucial service hours for employment partners, AmeriCorps serves to create jobs and provide pathways to young people entering the workforce. Additionally, AmeriCorps places thousands of young adults into service positions where they learn valuable work skills, earn money for advanced education, and develop an appreciation for citizenship in the area they serve.
Boys & Girls Clubs of Bloomington is a proud, longstanding partner of AmeriCorps as the Club has employed several members of both the AmeriCorps and AmeriCorps VISTA programs over the past decade. AmeriCorps members have opportunities to work in program roles directly with kids in Club sites, and VISTA members have opportunities to work in administrative capacities in the areas of Club Operations and Programming, Human Resources, and Resource Development.
The AmeriCorps State/National Program is the broadest network of AmeriCorps offerings. These groups look to recruit, train, and place certified AmeriCorps members in positions to meet critical community needs in education, public safety, health, and the environment. Members may serve in both part-time and full-time capacities. Throughout the year, Boys & Girls Clubs of Bloomington employ several AmeriCorps members to head or assist with vital Club programming in the areas of
Healthy Lifestyles, Academic Success, and Good Character & Active Citizenship.
The AmeriCorps VISTA Program is an avenue for members to work in nonprofit, faith-based and other community organizations as well as public agencies to create and expand programs that bring low-income individuals and communities out of poverty. Annually, Boys & Girls Clubs of Bloomington maintains an active roster of AmeriCorps VISTAS to serve inside the Club and provide high-level support to Club staff – thus creating a better overall experience for our Club members.
